Agrobiodiversity is the variety of crops, trees, animals, microbes and other species contributing to agricultural production. This diversity is the interplay of interactions between genetic resources, the environment, management methods and farming practices evolved over millennia.
Today’s major global trends of climatic changes, unsustainable use of resources and loss of traditional knowledge, are having a significant impact on this diversity and necessitate immediate action to reverse the devastating consequences.
We also strive to ensure the sustainability of agriculture systems by improving agronomic parameters, fostering local crops and seeds in the High Atlas and documenting the traditional practices that adhere to agroecology principles. Lastly, we work with small farmers to develop governance policies that promote agrobiodiversity conservation and local variety protection.
